This script is sort of like the button Insert Link to Safari that comes with Adium, but instead of just working with Safari this script will work with Safari, WebKit, Firefox, Opera and Camino. When there is more than one browser open, it will choose your default browser.

Called with %_browserpage

I made this one because the others are only for a single browser or they don't work with recent most used browsers. Also a lot of the other script aren't maintained anymore.

PS: Google Chrome is partially supported. But since it is not possible to get the URL of the current page in Chrome via AppleScript, you always will get a URL to the bug ticket, so you can see when it's solved.

  • 1.0 First release with support for Safari, WebKit, Firefox, Opera and Camino
  • 1.1 Upgraded performance when there is only one browser running
  • 1.2 Fixed bug when running WebKit
  • 1.3 Partial support for Google Chrome (URL not available)

Doesn't work for me.... I use Webkit instead of Safari, but everytime I employ this script it fires up Safari and uses my safari homepage...

I had that once too, but it stopped when closing Safari after that.
Now it doesn't launch Safari anymore here.

Would it be possible to have it auto-shorten the url? Via,, etc?
