DontIgnoreAdium

Description

If you get an instant message in Adium, but you've got some other app open (like a webbrowser, finder window, etc.) in front of it, this script will wait a couple minutes, then throw up a Growl sticky telling you not to ignore Adium.

I like it because I generally have something else open whenever I'm online, and I'll constantly hear the sound telling me someone sent me an IM, but put off checking what they said 'til I finish reading something, then inevitably forget. This way if I haven't touched Adium for 2 minutes since an IM was sent, I get a very obvious (but non-obtrusive!) reminder.

Installing it is kinda tricky, since it won't work as some easy-install-link script. Download the file and put it in the Adium Scripts folder (you > Library > Application Support > Adium > Scripts). Then open Adium and go to Preferences : Events. Select Message Recieved and click the little plus sign to add an action to this event. Choose Run an Applescript, then hit Browse, navigate to the Adium Scripts folder (where we put the script) and select it. Press OK. Do the same thing for Message Recieved (Background chat) and Message Recieved (Initial) and you're good to go!! (*phew*)

Oh, and it requires Growl. If you get visual alerts in Adium, Growl is installed and you're ok.

edit: Archangel81 was cool enough to point out that you have to have this event listed after the normal growl notification event, or it'll mask your normal growl notifications.

After making the file extension ".AdiumScripts" and changing the "Open With" setting to Adium (in "get info), I was able to doubleclick on the script to have Adium install it automagically. I suspect that if you distributed a version with those changes made it would "just work" for people.

NOTICE TO NEW USERS OF THIS XTRA!

When setting up this script in your Adium events preferences, make sure to list this script AFTER your normal growl notification, or it will disable your normal, immediate growl notifications.

Flawless, you might want to include that note in your description of the script. It took me a while to figure that out!

Regardless, this is an awesome idea. Plus, it's easy to edit and make another one for 10 minutes, etc. Well done!

Thanks for the bug-fix arch!! I didn't think to test stuff like that. Added a note to the description.

My pleasure. Do you have any more scripts planned? This one is a godsend, since Mac does not have a taskbar and you can't see a button blink or change color to notify the user of a message.

Oi, this looks great! Sadly, I don't know what you guys are talking about when you mention "Growl", help would be greatly appreciated.

Growl is a system that handles visual notification for third-party applications. Basically, whenever Adium needs to tell you something, you have a few choices (play a sound, run a script, etc.) and one of these choices is display a Growl notification. This means that Adium will let Growl decide how the notification looks, which is convenient because Growl has a lot of nice looking interfaces, and you can customize it to look however you want. It's a very nice system, and Growl can work with a lot of other applications as well. If you don't already have Growl installed, you can download it from 'http://growl.info'.
