Figured it out!

Preferences > Event:

and select the messages received action and you can add or remove the 'display name in dock icon'.

Is there any way to NOT have someone's screen name show up on the dock icon when you receive a new IM? I would like to experience this dock icon in it's full glory!! Thanks for the great dock icon!
